Iowa Eats

We went to Iowa last weekend for a family reunion of sorts, but that didn't stop us from sampling some of Iowa's best eats.

The highlight of course was Sage, in Windsor Heights, Iowa. It is an upscale restaurant (for Iowa) and the chef was nominated for a James Beard award last year. I was sad to see so few people in the restaurant on a Friday night, but the food was great! Hopefully it was because of the holiday weekend. I had the ribeye (what else do you order in Iowa, except maybe pork?) with truffle mashed potatoes and green beans. Andy had the duck breast with duck confit, tart cherry risotto, and duck jus. Some of the best duck I have tried!

Also, there was Maid Rite for lunch, which I have never tried before, but was something new. Andy and I split a tenderloin and a maid-rite classic, a loose meat sandwich on a hamburger bun. The classic came with mustard, ketchup, pickles, and raw onions. I liked it!

Another lunch took place at The Machine Shed for more tenderloin and roasted pork. We certainly got our fill of pork and that's pretty much it!
